🦁 How To Turn Off Airbag Light Volkswagen Passat
on my MK3 my airbag light came on. The only 2 fixes I was able to find was take it to the Stealer and pay 100.00 for a reset, or hook it up to a Vag and clear the code. You need an actual vagcom (not the program and the cheap ebay cable), then on the airbag tab there is a reset option I think.
1. Air Bag Light is On. According to NHTSA data, the most common problem of the VW Passat has to do with its airbags. This typically occurs in the 2010 to 2018 models of the VW Passat with the 2013 model incurring the highest number of complaints. Many Passat owners have experienced seeing the airbag light on their gauge cluster light up upon

Loss of airbags, power brakes, power steering, transmission shifting functions, engine hesitation. Indicator lights on dash flash or stay on steady include: coil, steering wheel, air bag, abs, image of car skidding, brakes, and tire inflation. The speedometer does not work and the fuel gauge just keeps sweeping.
You can reset (clear DTCs) it yourself with VCDS/OBD11 atleast, I guess other general DTC readers that can access the airbag module should also work but I have never used one so can't say for sure. meshtron • 2 yr. ago. For example, if the airbag system experiences a temporary glitch, such as a loose connection, the light may turn on temporarily and then turn off on its own once the issue is resolved. However, in most cases, the airbag light will not clear itself and will need to be manually reset using an OBD scanner.
The air bag light (and all the other warning lights) come on for a brief period when you first turn the key to ON. This is to show you the lights are functioning. If you're scanning the air bag module and it's coming up with no codes, then nothing is wrong as far as the built in diagnostics can tell.
After you have inflated all the tires to the correct air pressure, you must reinitialize the TPMS system. The tire pressure monitoring system in VW Passat senses change in radius of the tire with the help of ABS speed sensors. If the tire pressure decreases below the recommended pressure, the system warning light will be illuminated.
I've had the light on for like 20 times, I kept erasing and everything went good, but for the 21th time, it just wouldn't clear, so I looked into the wiring and there was a broken wire, real cheap fix, I just paid the guy a coffee (just merged the wire), but you'll have to clear it anyway, even if the issue has been taken care off. No more issues.
Just like any other warning light, the airbag light signals that there’s a problem with the airbag system—which could mean your airbags won’t work in an accident. Even if they do deploy, a faulty airbag could deploy incorrectly and cause injury or death to your or your passengers. That kind of risk means it’s necessary to get your car
The bag light got on just when pressing the horn for test, and now horn doesn't sound and the airbag light is on. VAG-COM gives me the following: 00588 - Airbag Igniter: Driver Side (N95) 32-00 - Resistance too High. I know that it relates to perhaps a bad connection somewhere, but now as I have removed the airbag and double-checked all wires
Several recent Volkswagen models share a similar way to reset the service light. The following steps should work for the VW Passat, Jetta, Tiguan, and others. 1: Turn off the ignition. 2: Press and hold the 0.0 button on the instrument cluster and turn on the ignition.
To start the process get your watch ready and turn the ignition switch from "Off" to "On." Step 3 - Time Airbag Light. Once the airbag light comes on it will stay on for a total of seven seconds. Once it turns off, you will have a second to turn the ignition back to "Off." Step 4 - Turn Ignition "On" After 3 Seconds

You can scan the airbags for fault codes to see what's causing the light to stay on, and that'll give you an idea of what needs to be replaced. The light will only turn off after everything has been properly repaired.
@DucatiKiller The cars I worked on had only a drivers side airbag. Got in an accident, airbag deployed, replaced it with one from the junkyard. Unhook the battery, wait 5 min to ensure any capacitors have drained. Check the connector with a volt meter. Plug in the airbag and bolt it in. Connect the battery.
